Skip the shopping this year and make something truly one-of-a-kind. In this beginner-friendly, one-day workshop, students will learn the basics of wheel throwing while creating handmade gifts for the people on your list (or a treat for yourself). Grab an apron, settle in at the wheel, and get messy!

Students will throw and shape their own pieces from start to finish, inspired by the winter-holiday theme of the class. Think mugs, small bowls, or trinket dishes — whatever you'd love to give or receive!

Pieces need time to dry and bisque fire, so you don't need to worry about glazing. Choose your glaze color in class, and our staff will handle the glazing and final firing for you. Your finished work will be ready for pickup on December 12th, just in time for gift wrapping!

Clay, glaze, and firing costs are all included in the price. The Peoria Art Guild provides all necessary tools and materials.
For students 16+

Spend the morning at the wheel and leave with a one-of-a-kind mug to call your own. In this one-day workshop, you'll learn the basics of wheel throwing while sipping on hot chocolate provided by the studio to put you into the winter-holiday mood!

Students will throw and shape their own mug from start to finish, with guidance every step of the way. Pieces will need time to dry and bisque fire, so please wait 2-3 weeks before coming to pick up your piece. Once your mug is bisque fired, you'll have two options for glazing: PAG members are welcome to come in during open studio hours and glaze their own piece. If you'd rather leave it to us, just ask instructor Claire to glaze it for you using one of our bucket glaze colors!

For students 16+

Join ceramicist Kirsten Serrano for a workshop in surface design with a focus on sgraffito techniques.

Each student will receive two handmade pieces of greenware — a small trinket dish and a vase — and learn how to layer underglazes and use sgraffito to reveal the colors underneath. By the end of the workshop, you’ll have the skills and confidence to use multiple surface design techniques to create rich, dynamic surfaces that combine precision, pattern, and personal expression.

Perfect for anyone curious about adding color, pattern, and texture to their pottery. All pieces will be fired and clear-glazed by PAG.
