Japanese Stab BookBinding
with Heidi Parker
Dating back to the fourteenth century, Japanese Stab Binding is a simple but strong thread-sewn technique that is still a common Japanese binding style today.
In this two-session workshop, you’ll learn the method and make your own hand-bound book to take home. You’ll choose from a selection of papers and colored threads to design a book that’s uniquely yours. You’ll learn how to prepare your pages, punch the holes, and sew a traditional binding pattern.
No experience is needed. You’ll leave with one finished, hand-sewn book, plus the skills to make more at home. It’s perfect for a journal, sketchbook, or small gift.

Give a well-loved book a second life. In this two-session workshop, you'll learn the basics of mending minor paper tears so the books you cherish can live a little longer.
You'll learn how to assess a page, choose the right repair materials, and mend tears cleanly using traditional bookbinding techniques. No experience is needed, just patience and a love for books.
Please bring in one book with a minor page tear or two that you'd like to repair. Sessions are designed for light mending of paper pages, not full rebinding or major structural repairs, and your instructor can help you decide whether your book is a good fit.
