Introduction to Sculpture
with Patrick Deibel

Introduction to Sculpture
Instructor: Patrick Deibel
Department: Sculpture
Discover the exciting world of three-dimensional art in this hands-on beginner level Sculpture class! Over eight weeks, students will explore various sculptural techniques and materials while developing their creativity and problem-solving skills.
Each student will likely create four projects, each taking about two class sessions to complete. However, students are encouraged to work at their own pace—whether that means refining a single, intricate piece or experimenting with multiple smaller works.
Projects may include:
Modular Paper Mobiles – Transition from 2D to 3D by designing and assembling geometric paper structures into a hanging sculpture.
Cardboard Sculpture – Learn both constructive and reductive methods by building and refining a dynamic form from layered cardboard.
Wooden Stick Constructions – Experiment with open-form design using found or purchased wooden sticks to create intricate sculptures.
Illuminated Wire Sculpture – Shape chicken wire into a fish form, then bring it to life with lights and colorful tissue paper.
This class is perfect for beginners and those looking to expand their artistic skills in a fun and supportive environment. All materials will be provided, though students are welcome to bring additional materials for personal projects.
Join us and bring your ideas to life in three dimensions!
